I won’t make it out there in the Real World
2025. 4ftx2ft. Acrylic and gouache on wallpaper and plywood.
This painting expresses my disconnect from both the outside and inside worlds. Chronic pain and illness forces me to stay inside my home, consequently transforming the space from safe to suffocating. Meanwhile, the outside world feels even more daunting, as I often lack the health to navigate an able-bodied society. The larger-than-life, anthropomorphic furniture highlights the de-realization I experience after being inside for weeks at a time, while the religious symbols ground me in importance and truth.
