Bedbound & Stir Crazy

2025. Old box spring, rope, ribbon, handmade blanket, nylon, spray paint, pink ribbon hair clips, fake hair, comforters.

I made this sculpture while recovering from spine surgery, which caused me to be bedbound for the majority of the day. I wanted to express the feelings of frustration that arise from being stuck in bed, as body parts try to break free from the bed, but are stopped by the blanket and straps. The feminine elements like the bows and pink color palette make reference to the gendered connotation of the word “bedbound,” as women historically were kept in bed for their infirmities.
